If you can see her, you can be her.
Only 28% of the Australian IT workforce is female and WiTWA leads the way in advocating for and introducing women into STEM roles. Our Founder and Principal Jo Minney was already a member of WiTWA back in 2019, when she was nominated for the Women in Tech [+] awards and attended the inaugural WiTWA Conference. After the conference, Jo got talking to the team and discovered that while the WiTWA volunteer team all worked in or around tech, their website had been thrown together and they didn’t really have the skills or expertise in their volunteer committee to deal with their rapidly growing collection of role models. This was around the time we were planning the first ever Perth do_action() hackathon, and at Jo’s urging WiTWA applied to get new websites for both WiTWA and their STEM incursion program, Techtrails, built. While neither of the sites were quite finished during the one day hackathon, the House Digital team completed both sites under the Mission Digital Program – complete with filterable, searchable role model directory to connect local businesses and organisation with female tech role models.
Since joining the Mission Digital program, we’ve also helped WiTWA with several other projects – including rebuilding the Techtrails Career Platform and launching their corporate Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Program.
In 2021 Jo was a judge for the WiTWA Tech [+] Awards, and we are excited to be sponsoring the awards again in 2022. You can hear from Jo about why supporting WiTWA is so important to us in this short video about why we’re committed to supporting Women in Tech!
