Thank you for agreeing to participate in our usability testing study. House Digital has been engaged to facilitate this study on behalf of another organisation, to provide actionable feedback that can be used to further improve their website or application.
What is a Usability Test?
In a nutshell, we’ll provide a series of tasks for you to do, and ask you to ‘think aloud’ while you do them. There is no right or wrong – the goal of a usability test is to test the platform (not you)!
Typically we’ll provide between five and ten tasks, over a period of approximately 60 minutes. You will be advised ahead of time by your facilitator exactly how much time we recommend putting aside to complete the test.
How is it Conducted?
You’ll be provided with a Zoom link for a specific time and day. You don’t need a video, but you will need the ability to speak and listen to the facilitator, so you will need either a microphone/speaker or a headset. If you don’t have either of those, you can also connect to the call with your phone.
Unless otherwise advised, the usability test should be conducted on a computer (rather than a mobile device) to allow for screen sharing. If you’re assisting us with testing on a mobile device, we’ll do our video call on WhatsApp instead of Zoom. All you need to do ahead of time is have the WhatsApp app installed, and we’ll do the rest!
How Can I Prepare?
That’s the beautiful part – you can’t! Your job is super easy – just join the call, and attempt the tasks we request from you in real time. We ask that you please avoid doing ‘research’ first – we’ll get the best results if you are looking at the project with completely fresh eyes.
